    History of Wankhede Stadium

    The Wankhede Stadium’s history starts from the 1974-75 season when it staged its first test, and the West Indies toured India. India lost by 201 runs in that tour, and Clive Lloyd scored an unbeaten 242 in the Wankhede Stadium. However, after two seasons, India had its first victory against New Zealand. At the same time, Wankhede Stadium has witnessed many other great performances, including Ian Botham’s thirteen wickets and century in the 1979-80 Jubilee Test.

    Wankhede Stadium also has considerable recent history since the sem-finals of the ICC Twenty20 World Cup 2016 and the finals of the ICC World Cup 2011 were played in the stadium.

    The stadium has a rich history in test series since it was built when only the test matches were played. However, the advent of Twenty20 and One-Day cricket changed the demands from the stadium. In 2011, Wankhede Stadium was also redeveloped to ensure the complete comfort of spectators with modern facilities.
